ok, i'm trying hard to control myself, but things are starting to get kinda exciting around here...the first actual piece produced by necessaries toy foundation has already come and gone...WHAT ?? yep, 'fraid so kids...it was manufactured for and given away in october at a rather exclusive i.e. borderline snooty pre-show show in a super-swank house on venice beach for todd schorr's latest exhibition, an alien in the land of make believe... hosted by nike wonderkid and schorr's biggest collector, mark parker, it was attended by friends, art patrons and various other types of human debris...i wasn't there, ok, i was there, but i didn't have any fun, ok, well i did have a little fun, but only cuz i had far too many gay drinks...the semi-shindig featured performing identical twin bellydancers and lots of disgusting things on crackers...i kept demanding "real food", but to no avail...

the piece ?? well, the piece was the secret mystic serpent and was a numbered edition of 200...now i'm not telling you all this just to get you foaming at the mouth about something you can't have, but rather because i'm feeling the need (the necessity ??) to document this historic/momentous moment as the beginning of this glorious new venture known as necessaries toy foundation...this 4" glow-in-the-dark artifact was as you may've guessed created by todd schorr and has been sculpted by industry hotshit hotshot, nathan cabrera and issued in a not very environmentally conscience poly bag with a snappily designed header card...now, just so you don't feel completely left out and forgotten i'll let you know that a painted version of the secret mystic serpent will be available as a special accouterment (big word johnny) with schorr's, bunny duck which will be available for purchase by discriminating consumers early in 2004... bunny duck will also be featured in the upcoming issue of super 7 toy culture magazine which will no doubt do wonders to help establish instant notoriety and garner some all-important indie cred...

ok, other news: the first real necessaries release is a 15" figure of enid coleslaw from the incredibly popular comic and devastatingly cool motion picture, ghost world created by bargain basement genius, daniel clowes...
this piece also sculpted by cabrera is absolutely amazing and is already stirring up truckloads of intense interest...it will be available at discerning comic stores and ultra-hip retail outlets in mid-january or directly from necessaries toy foundation if you so desire...

other other news: along with current projects well underway by camille rose garcia, fawn gehweiler and l.a. lowlife, pablo there are figures in the beginning stages by the irrepressible liz mcgrath, famed french artist, fafi and our very own nathan "pass the dutchie" cabrera...discussions and big-time negotiations have also begun with several more young-minded, gifted artists to bring their one dimensional characters into a swinging three dimensional world...stay tuned to this station for more updates...
